On October 23, 2014, Ms. Hernandez took 9 girls from her Spanish folk dance groups to Bowling Green State University. The students attended the 43rd Annual Latino Issues Conference at BGSU. In the morning they visited multiple workshop stations and were introduced to both staff and students at BGSU. They met the Latino Student Union’s Cabinet and were given a tour of campus by the Vice President of LSU, Xiomara Hernández. They visited multiple buildings and focal points at BGSU including the Multicultural Room in the Union which promotes cultural diversity. They were invited to a luncheon and heard the Key Note Speaker, Moises Serrano, tell his story and talk about what lead him to become an activist for undocumented people living in the United States.
