Celebrating Veterans

On November 11, Horizon Springfield celebrated Veterans’ Day all over the building! Ms. Rooker’s 1st grade class discussed what a Veteran was, and then the students wrote letters to them. If the students knew a Veteran, they could take their letter home to give it to them personally.

In 3rd grade, Ms. Von Deylen’s social studies classes read about Veteran”s Day and wrote letters to soldiers in the shape of hearts. In Mrs. Theis’ class, students read a history of America’s wars and discussed the tomb of the unknown soldier. Fifth graders watched a video about the history of Veterans Day and colored American Flags to send to a friend of Mrs Thomas’s that is currently deployed.

Select student workers wrote letters and created thank you bags that were given to Veterans at the Pinewood Apartments- a senior living community. They were so happy to be thought of on such a special day!
